What's coming up for you?

Existing entries are kept. You check quantities yourself; appliances aren't automatically multiplied per person. Deposit, rent and purchase incidental costs aren't part of this equipment budget.

The move-in checklist at a glance

These suggestions don't replace a handover report. Check condition, measurements, connections and delivery access before you order.

Before the move
  • Initial survey & Takeover: Record in writing with the previous tenant or seller which furniture and appliances are staying. Check function and model number.
  • Room and transport dimensions: Measure niches, doors, stairwell and lift. For appliances, allow space for connections and open doors.
  • Transport, boxes & Tools: Organise a removal van or helpers, boxes, tape, labelling and furniture-assembly tools.
  • Delivery & Installation: Check delivery date, floor, old appliance removal and connection charges separately from the appliance price. Only budget once.
  • Internet connection: Clarify availability at the new location and switch-over date. Check the existing contract and a possible transitional solution.
Kitchen & Eating
  • Fridge / freezer compartment: Clarify the recess dimensions, door hinge, ventilation gap and whether built-in or freestanding. Follow the manufacturer's transport instructions.
  • Cooker / hob / oven: Check the existing kitchen and connections. Coordinate installation and electrical connection with a specialist firm.
  • Dishwasher: Check installation width, front, water connection and space for the open door. Also possible without one to start with.
  • Pots, pan & Kitchen knife: A suitable pot, a pan, a knife and a board are enough to start with. Check whether existing pots are hob-safe.
  • Crockery, cutlery & Storage containers: Plan according to household size. Count existing sets and any containers brought along first.
  • Kettle / coffee machine: Only plan for preparation you'll actually use. Consider worktop space, socket and maintenance effort.
  • Air fryer: Optional: Does it solve a specific task in addition to the existing oven? Match basket size and worktop space.
  • Vegetable chopper: Optional: Determine frequent cutting tasks; a good knife may be enough.
  • Bin & Small kitchen items: Don't forget waste separation, washing-up liquid, sponge, tea towels and a tin opener.
Laundry, bathroom & Cleanliness
  • Washing machine: Check the shared laundry room or existing appliance. Match recess dimensions, water, drain, socket and transport route.
  • Drying rack & Laundry basket: Plan a drying space and ventilation option; hangers as needed.
  • Tumble dryer: Optional: First check whether the existing drying space is enough. For stacking, only use a suitable combination and connector.
  • Vacuum cleaner: Flooring, rugs, pet hair and storage determine requirements; check existing accessories.
  • Floor mop, bucket & Cleaning products: Note floor suitability. A simple mop may be enough; compare motorised help as needed.
  • Towels & Bathroom accessories: Towels, toilet paper, soap, toilet brush and a shower curtain if needed belong in the first box.
Sleeping & Living
  • Bed, mattress & Bedding: Match existing dimensions. Keep screws and tools to hand; secure the first night before all extras.
  • Curtains / privacy screens: Measure window and fixing points. For bedrooms, first sort out blackout and privacy.
  • Cupboard, shelf & Storage space: First check the actual volume and floor space. Secure furniture appropriately to the surface.
  • Table, chairs & Seating: Plan everyday use and walkways. Only order large furniture after measuring the room and doors.
  • Lamps & Bulbs: Which lamps are staying? Match fitting, brightness and light colour. Have fixed connections done by a professional.
Internet, home office & Entertainment
  • Router / modem: Check connection type and provider compatibility. Reuse the existing router if possible.
  • LAN cable / Wi-Fi extender: Place the router centrally and test WLAN at the workspace. Only buy a mesh system or repeater once a gap is confirmed.
  • Computer, monitor & Workspace: Check work-issued devices and existing connections. Plan desk, chair, lighting and video call needs together.
  • TVs: Try out the existing TV first. Room light, seating, furniture width and stand determine the choice.
  • TV bracket & Reception: Only if needed: check VESA size, wall structure, load capacity and cable, satellite or streaming reception.
  • Projectors & Screen: Optional alongside the TV: plan darkening, lens distance, screen area, power and signal path together.
  • Soundbar / speakers: Optional: First assess the existing sound. Consider connections, placement and volume in the living environment.
  • Charging cable & Power strips: Count the connections needed. Note power ratings and don't daisy-chain power strips.
Handover & Household essentials
  • Keys, meter readings & Documents: Document the handover, note meter readings and keep the instruction manuals for the appliances taken over.
  • Smoke detector & existing safety equipment: Clarify stock and function with the responsible person; replace missing or faulty devices specifically.
  • Tools, step stool & Torch: Keep a screwdriver, tape measure and a safe way to reach height close at hand. A torch belongs in the first box.
  • Balcony / garden / cellar: Only if space is available: plan storage, lighting, garden tools and outdoor furniture according to actual use.
